Why I Keep Selling My Crochet Even Though It Hasn't Sold Well for 15 Years
I have to give ChatGPT some credit here because it managed to dig deep and figure out why I’m still selling my crochet even though I’ve been doing it for 15 years with barely any sales.
Of course, some people do buy my stuff, but they make up only about 1% of all the crochet items I’ve made and tried to sell.
After a long conversation, ChatGPT finally found the answer to my question.
Why haven’t I given up? Because I want to show my handmade creations to the world and share them with people who actually like them. That’s all. Hahaha.
Is it really that simple? Apparently, yes! After going back and forth with ChatGPT, I agreed that this was the answer.
My crochet business isn’t profitable at all. In fact, I’m losing money. But I don’t even use the things I make myself, and I don’t really go out of my way to find customers either. If someone asks me to make something custom, I usually turn them down. I want to crochet what I want to crochet. So, money isn’t the main goal here.
But when it comes to my hobby, I somehow go all out. I set up an online shop, prepare nice packaging, take pretty pictures, and all that stuff. Yet, I don’t actually expect anyone to buy anything.
And I have to admit, I really do enjoy sharing my crochet creations with people who appreciate them. That’s why I’m not too keen on giving them as gifts, because I know the recipients probably won’t like them anyway. But if someone genuinely likes my work, I’m happy to give it to them for free.
So, there you have it.
I spent quite a while grilling ChatGPT with questions. Good thing it was okay with it. If it were a human, it would probably be exhausted by now. Hahaha.
