Amazed Watching My Kid Write Jawi
My kid is 8 years old, and they can read and write Jawi with ease.
Yes, I know almost every kid their age can do the same. But what makes me so amazed is the fact that I myself am terrible at Jawi! Hahaha.
Back in my school days, Jawi was just a small topic inside Islamic Education. There were no exams for it; it was just a basic introduction. We could read it, but only by stuttering and crawling through the words. I was definitely one of those who struggled.
But nowadays, mastering Jawi is a must because the entire Islamic Education syllabus is written in Jawi.
When my kid was in Primary 1, they knew absolutely nothing. Their KAFA teacher (ustazah) back then was super intense about making them do Jawi exercises. It felt like they did it every single day, because my kid kept telling me they were always writing Jawi at school.
At home, I helped them practice reading it. Honestly, I was learning while teaching because today's Jawi rules are quite different from when I was in school.
This year, in Primary 2, my kid can read and write Jawi smoothly. I’m not even as fluent as they are, but of course, I fake it till I make it. Can’t let my kid beat me!
Looking back, I spent the whole of last year worrying that they wouldn't be able to catch up on Islamic studies if they didn't master Jawi. This year, Alhamdulillah, they've got it down.
Turns out I was just overthinking. Kids these days are such fast learners!
